Match Report

LISBURN Distillery face a play-off next week against Newry City in order to secure their Premiership survival following this home defeat to Ballymena United.

John Cunningham's side host the Championship runners-up on Tuesday night with the return scheduled for Friday (4th). Both games kick-off at 7:45pm.

The Whites moved in front on 11 minutes through Gary Liggett who showed great persistance to take the ball from the edge of the box, cut inside a defender and fire past debutant 'keeper Macauley Cairns.

And they almost doubled their lead seven minutes later only for David Larmour to send an effort against an upright.

United might have levelled after half-an-hour when departing striker Gary McCutcheon fired just wide from 20 yards.

But Glenn Ferguson's side did equalise two minutes into the second half when Allan Jenkins played Ally Teggart through to volley past Billy Brennan.

The Sky Blues then seized the advantage on 68 minutes when, after Liggett was adjudged to handled the ball inside the area, McCutcheon converted from the spot.

Indeed, the Scotsman added a third for the visitors five minutes later to effectively condemn the Whites to that play-off spot.

Distillery did grab a late consolation courtesy of a 90th minute Jordan Hughes spot-kick.
