Biography
Broughshane born school teacher Samuel Alexander played one game at full-back for the Sky Blues in a forgettable 5-0 defeat away to Glenavon.
Little is known about Alexander’s football career prior to his arrival at the Showgrounds in August 1956. He started his journey with his hometown team in the Reserves as a centre-forward, before regressing down the pitch to star as the regular full-back in the United second-string throughout the 1956/1957 season.
Samuel gained his opportunity from the club’s selection committee with a senior debut for struggling Ballymena United at Mourneview Park in February 1957, but it unfortunately turned into a horror show, with the Sky Blues going down by five goals without reply. It would be his first and last outing in the Irish League.
Samuel Alexander continued to play with the reserves for the remainder of the campaign, and into the start of the 1957/1958 season, but faded away from the club thereafter.
