Match Report

BALLYMENA conceded 4 for a second week in a row, well beaten by Ballinamallard United today.

The game started with some entertaining end to end action, but it took 13 minutes for the first real goalmouth action, referee Evan Boyce waving away penalty appeals after Stephen O'Flynn was taken down by Alan Blayney, the official deeming the keeper had got the ball. On 16 minutes the home players were outraged again as the referee pulled play back for treatment to Paddy McNally when they were in a good attacking position. Stephen O'Flynn had a chance to shoot in the 24th minute but it flew just wide of the post.

Shane McCabe had the next effort for the home side, in the 28th minute, but it also went wide. The first goal of the game came in the 32nd minute, Ivan Sproule sending a low cross to James McKenna who slid it into the net. Just over 10 minutes later it was 2-0 after Stephen O'Flynn scored, with the help from a deflection, from a free kick conceded by Michael Smith.

Straight from the kick off in the 2nd half Michael Smith crossed the ball to Matthew Tipton who headed home from 6 yards. It wasn't long before the 2 goal advantage had been restored though, Ivan Sproule once again crossing in but Ryan Campbell getting onto the end of it this time. Moments later the Mallards had the ball in the net again, but the referee ruled it out for an offside offence. The home side won a penalty in the 62nd minute, Kyle McVey punished for a late challenge in the box and Jason McCartney firing home from the spot.

Gary Thompson had a chance on 74 minutes but he fired it over the head of both Alvin Rouse and the crossbar. Leroy Millar did get a goal back for the Sky Blues, scoring in injury time, but the home side held on to secure their first win since 30th October.
