Match Report

Not many sides will visit St. Julian's Road and emerge with at least a point but just like last season the Sky Blues appear to be able to match anything Roy McCreadie's side throw at them.

To be fair Omagh probably deserved all three points from this CIS Insurance Cup clash but football is all about taking advantage of your chances so on that basis a draw was probably the only reasonable outcome.

Omagh started brightly and came close to opening the scoring after 11 minutes when defender Stephen Johnston got his head to a Eamon Kavanagh cross only to see his effort crash back off the crossbar.

Then, on 19 minutes, striker Andy Crawford had a goal ruled out for offside.

United hit back, though, with a couple of chances of their own from Paul Millar and Shea Campbell which, while not really troubling Gavin Cullen, certainly proved to the home back four that the Sky Blue attack couldn't be underestimated.

Early in the second half Cullen was called into action again with a superb double save to deny Campbell and Joe Gray after the Omagh defence had failed to adequately deal with a Trevor McLernon corner.

Omagh were thwarted once more a short time later when Barry Patton sent a header against the upright.

They continued to press and almost grabbed a late winner nine minutes from time when Crawford just failed to reach an Ivan Sproule cross while Ballymena almost won it themselves soon after when Campbell was dispossessed by Ruari Boyle just as he was about to pull the trigger.
