Match Report

BALLYMENA United secured a vital three points today away to Ballinamallard United, the goal coming from an Allan Jenkins penalty.

Mark Magennis had an opportunity to open the scoring in the opening minute but he put his shot wide. Allan Jenkins then had two chances before the quarter hour mark, the first sent wide after a good ball from Magennis, the second coming from a deflected David Cushley cross, but Jenkins shot wide again.

In the 23rd minute of the game the home side were through with Johnny Lafferty but he put the ball wide of the post. Minutes later a poor backpass from Kyle McVey allowed Steve Feeney a one on one chance against Dwayne Nelson but the Ballinamallard player managed to shoot wide. Lafferty had another chance on 32 minutes but again pulled his shot wide.

With 38 minutes on the clock Cushley sent an ambitious effort right over the car park outside. This was followed by another shot from United which Mallards keeper Stefan McCusker fumbled, apparently struggling with an injury which required treatment earlier in the half.

10 minutes into the second half and Eoin Kane seen a long range shot go just wide. On 61 minutes Cushley forced a save and a corner with a fierce shot, but the corner came to nothing.

Finally United managed to go ahead, Liam McMenamin bringing Cushley down in the box and Allan Jenkins converting the penalty to cheers from the visiting fans.

The Braidmen continued to push forward and on 77 minutes Cushley brought another good save from the Mallards keeper. That was to be the last action from Cushley in the game as he was replaced by Leroy Millar.

Despite a late free kick for the home side, the Sky Blues held on for a vital three points.
