Match Report

UNITED had a penalty saved and a man sent off today, but still came out 1-0 winners thanks to a last minute goal from David Cushley.

In a bright start to the game Tony Kane fired a cross into the box in the opening minutes but Matthew Shevlin couldn't reach it. With 9 minutes gone, Matthew Shevlin was played through on goal but he was flagged for an apparent offside.

A minute later Matthew Tipton was played through and brought down in the box by Andrew Burns, resulting in a penalty. Jim Ervin stepped up to take, but Swifts keeper Andy Coleman got down to his left to make the save.

At the other end Dungannon appealed for a penalty, claiming the ball was handled in the box, but referee Even Boyce waved away their appeals, instead awarding a corner. The ball was sent into the box but narrowly glanced wide.

In the 19th minute the away side had a good chance but Dermot McCaffrey fired over the bar. United took the ball to the other end and Shevlin shook off a challenge to cross into the box but Coleman got down well to prevent Tipton getting on the end of it.
As the game neared the half hour mark Dungannon won a corner and a shot was flashed past the far post, three Swifts players just failing to get a touch which would've almost certainly resulted in a goal. Ryan Harpur then hit Kane with an awful tackle, which the referee ignored, and David Cushley was booked for retaliating.

On 35 minutes Gary Thompson was injured while clearing the ball into touch and he had to be replaced by Gavin Taggart. United won a series of corners but failed to make anything of them, then keeper Dwayne Nelson sent a long ball up to Cushley who eventually forced another corner. The short corner was worked across to Willie Faulkner but he long range shot was over the bar.

Kane delivered another excellent ball across into the box but Coleman was on hand to punch it away.

In the early stages of the second half a goalmouth scramble ended with Allan Jenkins getting a touch on the ball but it wasn't enough to shoot past Coleman. Moments later Tipton was shown a straight red card after making a challenge on Ryan Harpur.

On 58 minutes Nelson pulled out a fantastic save to prevent a certain goal for Kris Lowe from 6 yards. The second change for the Braidmen came on the hour mark with Michael Ruddy coming on to replace Faulkner. The final change was made with just over 15 minutes left in the game, Darren Henderson replacing Shevlin.

With 8 minutes left Cushley headed just over the bar, but he made amends by securing the three points with a 90th minute goal.
