Match Report

BALLYMENA United clocked up their first win in five starts to move back into the top half of the table with this victory over Lisburn Distillery at Ballyskeagh.

The Sky Blues needed just five minutes to move in front when teenage winger Dominic Melly despatched a superbly struck 35-yard drive past Philip Matthews.

However the Whites almost levelled within a couple of minutes when Andrew Dickson fired just wide of the post.

Towards the end of the half both sides came close when first Melly shot across the face of goal and then Tim Mouncey sent a 30-yard effort narrowly wide.

Melly almost made it 2-0 to the visitors eight minutes into the second half with a low drive which came back off Matthews although Justin McBride was unable to turn home the rebound under pressure from Paul Muir.

Then, on 71 minutes, United extended their lead with another 35-yard drive, this time from Garth Scates.

McBride might have added a third barely sixty seconds later only to fire wide from 15 yards.

The closest the home side came to reducing the deficit came late in the game when a Dickson header was kept out by returning United keeper Robert Robinson.
