Match Report

Ballymena United came from behind to record their first win of the season with this Oval defeat of Glentoran.

The Glens raced into the lead on seven minutes after Curtis Allen pounced to tap home the rebound after an initial effort came back off the post.

But, within a minute, United were back on level terms through teenage striker Matthew Shevlin after he showed great composure to coolly take the ball round 'keeper Aaron Hogg and into the empty net.

That was how it stayed until six minutes from the break when United skipper Jim Ervin went on a mazy run before releasing Matthew Tipton to sidefoot a finish beyond Hogg.

The visitors might have extended their lead ten minutes into the second half when Shevlin pounced on a spilled Hogg ball but couldn't keep his balance to direct his shot on target.

Then, just after the hour, Tipton almost made the most of a Johnny Addis mistake only to fail to beat Hogg one-on-one.

However, Ballymena did get their third goal on 78 minutes through Willie Faulkner who lifted the ball above Hogg after Tipton had touched a pass on.
