Match Report

CARRICK Rangers' relegation worries deepened with this Friday night defeat to Ballymena United at Seaview.

The Sky Blues raced into the lead after just three minutes through Allan Jenkins after Gary McCutcheon backheeled the ball into his path in front of goal.

And the visitors added a second on 22 minutes after Rory Carson ran onto a James Costello pass to beat Paul Murphy from just outside the area.

Rangers reduced the arrears on 30 minutes courtesy of recent signing Shane Dolan who made the most of poor defending to finish confidently.

But United really should have restored their two-goal advantage just before the break only for Costello to somehow miss with the goal at his mercy after Murphy had committed.

Then, early in the second half, the former Glenavon man failed to finish despite being one-on-one with Murphy.

United missed another opportunity not long after after McCutcheon fired wide although well placed.

They were almost punished for these misses when Paul Heatley sent an overhead kick just a little too high from six yards.

However, Ballymena did eventually find that third goal on 76 minutes when Ross Black delivered a cross for McCutcheon to turn home from six yards.
