Match Report

NEW managers Rodney McAree and Joe McCall had to settle for a point apiece after a dramatic finish at Stangmore Park.

Johnny Topley came close for the Swifts after just five minutes with a swerving effort just past an upright.

Michael Funston produced the next credible effort of note just after the half-hour mark when he fired just wide from a Dermot McCaffrey cross.

Johnny Topley then threatened for the Swifts when, despite being well placed, he failed to convert from just six yards.

Topley came close again moments from the break with a cracking 25-yard drive which Wayne Drummond did well to tip over at full stretch.

Johnny Montgomery also came close for McAree's side with a free-kick just past the right post.

Ballymena's best efforts in a scoreless first half were arguably an Aaron Stewart header not long after Conor Downey flashed a shot across the goalmouth.

The visitors had the ball in the net on 71 minutes after Stewart beat three defenders to tee up Gary McCutcheon to finish only for referee Mark Courtney to rule the 'goal' out to call back play for an earlier foul on the United defender.

But McCutcheon wasn't to be denied on 88 minutes after he weaved his way through the Swifts defence to slot the ball beyond Niall Morgan.

However, Dungannon levelled a minute into stoppage time after Conor Forker, a late substitute for Craig McClean, stabbed the ball home amid much confusion in the goalmouth.
