Match Report

PHILIP Lowry opened the scoring for Linfield on ten minutes when he made the most of a moment of hesitation by Chris Rodgers to nip in and drill the ball past Wayne Drummond.

The Blues 'scored' again three minutes later only for Michael Carvill to control the ball with his hand before sending it past Drummond.

And a couple of minutes after that Winkie Murphy blasted the crossbar with a volley after United failed to clear a corner.

Then, on 33 minutes, Mark McAllister was unfortunate when his angled drive took a deflection off Curtis Woods onto an upright.

The Sky Blues might have levelled early in the second half when Rodgers almost atoned for his earlier error with a header against an upright from an Alan Teggart free-kick.

McAllister squandered a gilt-edged opportunity just after the hour when he was unable to adequately control the ball after Damien Curran played him through.

At the other end Teggart was thwarted when Alan Blayney got down well to save his 25-yard drive before, with a couple of minutes left, Carvill decided to go it alone from a tight angle despite having two team-mates arguably better placed in the area.
