Match Report

Fine weather favoured this match at Lurgan.

Ballymena played sparkling football, and within five minutes Ronald Cameron gave them the lead with a hard drive after good combination with Flannigan. The Ballymena centre-half simply owned the middle of the field, and with constructive halves on either side of him, fed the forwards perfectly, so that the front line led their opponents a merry dance.

Working together with great understanding, the team gave as fine an exhibition of football in the first half as anyone could have wished for, the attacks being characterised by beautiful out-and-in movements which were clean and precise.

Eight minutes before the interval Dunseath ran out and held a shot, but on being hustled by Haddow he dropped the ball, and John Barr piloted it into the net for the second goal. The best shot of the half was a snorter from Flannigan, which Dunseath just managed to hold.

Three minutes after the resumption Edward Magill headed through from a corner, but beyond this Glenavon did scarcely anything of note. Robert Stoddart scored Ballymena's third with a splendid first-time drive from Barr's pass, and all but scored with another great try which hit an upright.

Barr also struck the post and Flannigan fairly made the crossbar rattle with a long drive. It was an easy day for Ballymena, who were in the best of form.
