Match Report

DEFEAT to Crusaders condemned Ballymena United to yet another bottom six finish on a sunny Spring afternoon at Seaview.

Crusaders had the better of a timid first half, Jordan Owens and Paul Heately both dragged efforts wide before David Cushley went close for the visitors. Heately's next contribution was a booking for simulation, as he attempted to con referee Raymond Crangle to win a penalty.

United started the second half on the up and wasted two glorious opportunities to break the deadlock. First David Cushley shot off target after a perfectly timed through ball by substitute Allan Jenkins before Darren Boyce tapped wide with the goal gaping after David Magowan's under hit back pass.

The Sky Blues were made to pay for their profligacy on the hour mark when Eamonn McAllister slotted home Declan Caddell's headed knock down after a precise cross from former United man Nathan Hanley. Johnny Taylor forced two headers as the match reached its conclusion but neither really troubled Sean O'Neill in the Crusaders goal as the hosts held on to record their first league victory over Ballymena United this season.

Next up for the Sky Blues is a clash with Glenavon at the Showgrounds, a side who secured their top six position with a 3-1 victory over Coleraine.
