Match Report

BALLYMENA United recorded their first ever league victory at Ferney Park thanks to three excellent goals from Mark Surgenor, Neal Gawley and substitute Matthew Tipton.

United opened the scoring with just four minutes on the clock thanks to a stunning 25 yard curling effort from Mark Surgenor. David Cushley dragged a couple of efforts wide in an attempt to double the Sky Blues' advantage before Liam Martin equalised for the hosts five minutes before the break after some questionable United defending from Johnny Lafferty's corner.

Ballymena emerged from the second half with fresh impetus and controlled the tempo of the game, deservedly regaining the lead on 69 minutes with a superb free kick into the bottom corner from Neal Gawley. A delightful added time chipped finish from substitute Matthew Tipton wrapped up the three points for the Sky Blues and ensured the small band of travelling supporters made the long trip back to Ballymena with a win to celebrate.
