Vastly experienced former Premier League defender who had been involved in transfers totalling over £1 million signed by Kenny Shiels on a short term deal in September 2001.

Born in Liverpool, 19-year-old Beesley joined Wigan Athletic in September 1984 from non-league Merseyside club, Marine. The defender spent five seasons playing for the Latics in the old Third Division (third tier), accumulating 185 appearances in all competitions between the 1983/1984 and 1989/1990 seasons.

In October 1989, Paul was snapped up by Leyton Orient in a transfer worth £175,000.
