Ballymena United needed to win this game to have any hope of lifting the Ulster Cup but in the end they collapsed under not inconsiderable pressure from their hosts.

The Sky Blues came close to breaking the deadlock on nine minutes when Shea Campbell fired wide from just outside the area.

It was Limavady, though, who drew first blood on 25 minutes when Ryan McIlmoyle sped into the box before cutting back for Michael Devlin to knock the ball past David Henry.

Ballymena might have levelled early in the second half through Trevor McLernon who could only blast a Peter Withnell lay-off well wide.

Davy Patton made it 2-0 to the Roesiders on 63 minutes when he sent a looping header beyond Henry's reach.

Then, nine minutes later, Paul Brown completed the scoring with a lob over the keeper from 20 yards after beating the offside trap.
