Ballymena finished the season well when they won their last competitive game on Wednesday evening at the expense of Glenavon by four goals to one.

There was a good attendance at the Showgrounds to see the Light Blues at home for the last time this season. Ballymena played the same team as turned out against Linfield last Saturday.

In the first half Ballymena had the greater share of the play, and within the first five or six minutes Mitchell opened the scoring. Girvan added No. 2, scoring from an awkward angle, and before the interval Shiels put them further ahead.

The second half was not long in progress when Turkington opened Glenavon's account. Afterwards both goals had narrow shaves, and eventually the visitors' citadel fell to McCambridge.

At the conclusion of the match McDiarmid was carried shoulder high off the field, in recognition of the fact that he was the only Ballymena player who had played in every match during the season.
