There was only a medium attendance at Solitude on Tuesday to see this match. Ballymena had two changes in the team, Nelson and Gilmore replacing McNinch and D. Reid, who were nursing injuries received the previous day.

The strong breeze made ball control difficult for both teams. Exchanges were even at the outset, but play generally was uninteresting. At the end of twenty-five minutes McCambridge was going well for goal when Maguire brought him down inside the penalty area and with the resultant spot kick Cassidy placed well in the net out of Gardiner's reach.

Shiels added the second and McCambridge netted a third. Cassidy made a great first time effort to score when he accepted a cross from Clarke, and banged it into the side rigging. Cliftonville had numerous attacks to their credit, but finished very weakly.

With the wind in their favour, Ballymena took things easy in the second half. The amateurs attacked doggedly at times, but were always easily driven back. Eventually J. Millar took advantage of a slip on the part of McDiarmid and ran right up to beat Gough with a fast shot. Then Ballymena pulled out and just to show what they were capable of doing, Mitchell scored their fourth from Cassidy's centre.
